The Department ranked first in Italy for its research quality, has been selected by MIUR as one of the "Departments of Excellence"

The relevance of the research activity of the Department is testified by the survey Censis-La Repubblica (2015 edition), that places the Department at the first rank among the Italian universities (first among 41 for the Physics area and first among 31 for the Earth Science area).

In the Assessment of Research Quality (VQR 2011-2014) done by ANVUR (Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes) the Department was ranked 14th among 82 (Physics area) and 6th among 51 (Earth Science area).

The Department of Physics and Earth Science of the Ferrara University has been selected by the Minister of Education, University and Research (MIUR) in January 2018 as one of the Department of Excellence that will receive financial support according to the Budget Law 2017.

Marcin Majka is the first student of the Ferrara-Krakow Joint PhD to graduate

Thanks to the collaboration between the University of Ferrara, The National Institutes for Nuclear Physics and the Polish Academy of Sciences, Marcin Majka successfully defended his thesis for the International PhD "Copernicus" in Physics on 13th of July in Krakow. Marcin's thesis is entitled “Modelling of steady and pulsatile flow in selected parts of the cardiovascular system under physiological and pathological conditions”.
