Paulo Cabrita (PhD) has graduated in Marine Biology with a master's degree in Marine and Coastal Systems, both obtained at the University of Algarve. His PhD is focused on morphodynamics and numerical modelling, using XBeach to simulate the behaviour of different European beaches during coastal storms. The research will also involve fieldwork activities.

Luca Toma (MSc) is a research fellow graduated in Earth Sciences at University of Ferrara and he also has a II Level University Master Course in GIS and UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) attended at the University of Padua. His work consists in the study of the impacts and damages caused by storm surges, using satellite, drone and geographical data and GIS applications.

Nicola Fullin (PhD) was a PhD student graduated with encomio in Earth Sciences at the University of Ferrara. He conducted a PhD focused on understanding the interaction between coastal processes and landslide on cliffs in the Conero area (Ancona, IT), using a combined approach of remote sensing technologies and numerical modeling softwares as he has already done in his MSc thesis at Simon Fraser University of Vancouver with prof. Doug Stead and Dr. Davide Donati. He was followed by two different Co-supervisor, Prof. Paolo Ciavola and Prof. Monica Ghirotti.

Juan Montes (PhD) is a post-doctoral researcher with a Margarita Salas contract with the University of Cadiz and he has finalized the internship associated with this contract at the University of Ferrara. He has a MSc in Integrated Coastal Zone Management and a PhD in Marine Sciences at the University of Cadiz. His PhD focused on coastal hazards, using a combined approach of fieldwork, aerial photography, and numerical models. During the PhD, he carried out research interships at the Department of Physics and Earth Sciences of the University of Ferrara (Italy), at the Institute of Engineering of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (Mexico), at the Institute of Marine Sciences of Barcelona (Spain), and also participate in the Spanish Antarctic campaign (2019) with the Laboratory of Astronomy, Geodesy and Cartography of the University of Cádiz. His first postdoctoral contract was at IUSS Pavia (Italy) in the framework of the european proyect ECFAS.

Enrico Duo (PhD) is a post-doctoral researcher. He obtained a MSc in Civil Engineering at the University of Ferrara and a PhD in Earth Sciences at the University of Ferrara. His PhD focused on coastal risk, integrating numerical modelling, field work activities and socio-economic aspects. He is also collaborating with the Consorzio Futuro in Ricerca on the Risc-KIT EU and ANYWHERE projects. In addition he is a skilled AUV pilot for topographic surveying.

Dr Stefano Fabbri (PhD) is a post-doctoral research fellow in coastal geomorphology. He has a PhD in environmental sciences - coastal systems from the University of Bologna. He focuses his experience (and publications) in Remote Sensing data acquisition (UAV, TLS, GNSS, satellite images), elaboration and analysis in G.I.S. environment; He worked mostly on dune/beach systems, dealing with their erosion and methods to quantify and prevent it. At the Department of Physics and Earth Sciences of the University of Ferrara, he teaches in the "G.I.S. and Remote Sensing applications to territorial cartography" course. His experience in Citizen Science starts in 2017  within the platform EarthWatch - FreshwaterWatch section https://www.osservatoriocitizenscience.org/., in Emilia Romagna, as collaborator, trainer and promoter in the water quality field; beyond that, he had a leading role in the Ravenna Citizen Science Observatory creation.

Paola Emilia Souto Ceccon (PhD) studied Oceanography at the University of Vigo with a master degree in Coastal Engineering at the University of Cantabria. Her PhD work focused on morphodynamics, shoreline changes and evolution of Mediterranean beaches, using satellite images combined with field work activities (UAV and GPS measure of the coastline).

Marine Le Gal (PhD) is a post-doctoral researcher. She obtained a diploma of engineering from ENSEIRB-Matmeca (France) and a PhD Degree in Fluid Mechanics from the University of Paris East (France). Her PhD focused on tsunamis with a special interest for the impact of a kinematic generation using numerical and analytical approaches contributing to the project TANDEM. For her first post-doctoral position, she looked at the impact of coral reef on tsunami inundation using numerical models. In 2021, she integrated the COSTUF unit to work on coastal flood models for the ECFAS project.

Tomas Fernandez Montblanc (PhD) is a visiting researcher. He obtained a MSc in Oceanography at the University of Cadiz and a PhD from the same University focusing on the influence of physical, chemical and biological conditions in the damage and protection of underwater historical heritage. For several years he worked at COSTUF as ocean modeller for the European project ANYWHERE. He is currently a contracted lecturer in the Department of Earth Sciences of the Faculty of Marine Sciences of the University of Cadiz (Spain).

Silvia Cilli (PhD) is graduated in Civil Engineering at the University of Ferrara. She recently obtained at the University of Ferrara a PhD working on river morphodynamics. Her PhD focused on  the evaluation of bed-load transport and dune dynamics of two coastal river plains in Emilia-Romagna (Fiumi Uniti and Savio rivers). Her study consisted of field work activities integrated with numerical modeling. She is a visiting researcher of COSTUF with competence on river dynamics and she is currently employed full time as a river engineer by the Romagna Land and Water Board.

Edward Anthony (PhD) is a full professor of physical geography at Aix-Marseille University (France). His main interests focus on geomorphology, sediment dynamics, ecology and management of alluvial coasts. He has 30 years of engagement in research in coastal geomorphology and morphodynamic processes on the Amazon-influenced coast of South America, West Africa, the Mediterranean and especially the French Riviera, English Channel and North Sea coasts, and recently the Mekong Delta. He is currently teaching coastal dynamics and vulnerability of river deltas at the Physics and Earth Sciences Department.

Duccio Bertoni (PhD) is an associate professor of the University of Pisa, where he teaches Coastal Sediment Dynamics and Stratigraphic Geology. While in Ferrara, he worked on the recent geomorphological evolution of sandy beaches along the Northern Adriatic Sea and on experiments with Smart Pebbles at Portonovo beach. He was also an assistant lecturer in the Department of Engineering of the University of Ferrara teaching basic geology. His research interests involve coastal sedimentology, sediment transport on coarse-grained beaches and beach dunes.

His interests are in the observation and modeling of coastal morphodynamics, the morphological interplay of hydrodynamics (waves and currents) with sediment and seabed features (morphology). Karl Nordstrom (PhD) is a distinguished professor of the Rutgers University (USA). His main interests focus on estuarine beahces, aeolian transport across beaches, climate-change adaptation strategies, geomorphological and sedimentological assessments for beach nourishments. He joined our group in 2014, his work focused on beach morphologies induced by breakwaters on the Emilia-Romagna coastline.

Marta Pratellesi (PhD) is a Navy officer graduated in Naval and Marine Sciences at the University of Pisa. She has a Master in Marine Geomatics obtained at the University of Genoa. She is working as hydrographer in the Italian Navy since 2003. Her PhD study was focused on the sea bottom characterization of the Ligurian Sea and on the morphodynamics of the Magra River’s mouth.

Maurizio Demarte (PhD) is a Navy captain. He recently obtained his PhD in "Earth and Marine Sciences" in the University of Ferrara.The project was stipulated with UniFE, in partnership with the University of Cadice (Spain), and the Navy Idrographic Institution in 2016. He developed an innovative tool for seabed acoustic mapping called Multiparametric Automatic Detection (MAD).
